Criterion B - Developing Ideas

My class work                                                                   19/10/16

Reflection: (26/10/16)

Here is my funnel work that I completed in class on the 19th of October 2016. We listened to and analyzed a text about board games from the teacher, then identified the 25 key words and wrote them inside the funnel. We then narrowed the 25 key words down to 5 key words and wrote a sentence for each of them explaining how and what they are used for. We were then given a selection of words and we had to sort them into 2 categories, desirable and essential. I got most of the words correct! I completed this task in a group of around 5 people.

Reflection:
These are my design specifications. I have filled in a table I created using Microsoft Word as that is what IB and my teacher want us to do. I find that this method is easier to read and is nicely presented as to bullet points.

Design Sketches for Compact furniture:  Completed on Microsoft Word

The Sleeping Station

This is my first design sketch for my compact furniture set. I used Microsoft Word to create this, as when I first attempted to draw it by hand the results did not look as accurate as I wanted them to be. It was quite challenging to manoeuvre the shapes and scale them to the right size. I think that the highlight of my sketch are the detailed annotations. I got this sketch idea from when I visited Ikea and saw the bunk beds that looked similar to this.

The Deep Sleeper

This is the deep sleeper. I used Microsoft word to create this design. This design was not as challenging because I did not use as many 3D shapes, but I did include new shapes such as cylinders in my sketch. The highlight of this drawing is the name that I picked out. I find it quite fitting! My idea for this sketch goes quite a while back, to when I was very young and had a few shelves above my bed. I found it very helpful as I could store my favourite items there. This is different as it is very low set to the ground.

The storage bed

This is my sketch of the storage bed. I made it using Microsoft word. It was nit that challenging as the design was repetitive. The highlight of this drawing is its cool, realistic 3D look. I got the idea of this sketch from brainstorming down ways of storage that can fit into one bed the I picked out this one. I feel like the 10 drawers will be very helpful when it comes to someone having many items in possession. The annotations could be better but I feel they describe the point well. This is different as it has a lot of drawers for storage.

The hidden storage unit bed

This bed that I designed on Microsoft word includes a hidden storage unit underneath it. This feature is very handy if you want to store valuables or any other items that you would not want lying around your living space. It was fun and slightly challenging to make as I had to make it from the view of the actual bed/sleeping area and the view of the compartment. The best part of this sketch is the very detailed annotations. I got the idea of this bed from a similar bed in my old house. This is different as it is abed with a hidden compartment.

The heart case!

This is the first iPad case I have designed using Microsoft Word. It was quite challenging as I did not have many good ideas in mind, but after some trying, I finally came up with this design army first one. My favorite part of this sketch is the cute theme, pink hearts! I think that this sketch is well annotated.

The smiley case!

This is my design of the blue smiley case. I designed it using Microsoft word. It was not as challenging as my first design on iPad cases, as I already had a baseline idea that I can use to inspire in my future designs. My favorite part of this  design is the cool sun home button protector, I feel like this is a nice touch to the whole case. I came up with this idea from inspiration of my previous design. I like this design although I feel the annotations could be more descriptive. This is different as it has a design designed for boys.

The tablet TV!

Here is my design for my third and final iPad case. I have called it the tablet TV as it is a cute, chic way to make a tablet into a TV inside a car or one that can be strapped onto the handles of a buggy stroller. It was challenging to make but in a fun way! I got to use new shapes and color them to suit. my favourite part of this design is the nice 3D shape that make up the body of the case. I think the annotations are well detailed. I got this idea from an old DVD player that I used to have in my car. It strapped onto the headrest to make a TV! This is different as it can be attatched to multiple objects.

Both of my designs fulfill 6 out of 8 design specifications which means they both fulfill the same amount. The difference between the iPad case and compact furniture is that the iPad case is portable and made from fully non-toxic materials so that kids won't get harmed if they ingest it. The compact furniture is not at all meant to be portable
